Italy staged 915 trade fair events in 2025, five percent more than in 2024, with total exhibitors up six percent, foreign exhibitors up seven percent and foreign exhibitors holding twenty percent of the total. Roughly 11 million square metres of exhibition space were sold. For 2026, 276 international trade fairs are scheduled at Italian venues, led by Lombardy with 83. Visitor data runs a year behind: the latest consolidated figures are for 2024 at roughly 18 million visitors, more than 1.3 million of them foreign, with 2025 still being consolidated. The sector proper counts about 200 companies and 4,000 employees on a production value of 1.5 billion euros in 2023, while the wider fairs and congresses industry under ATECO 82.30.00 counted 4,285 enterprises and 4.0 billion euros of production value in 2023, growing 6.2 percent a year since 2014 and ranking third in the EU. Prometeia estimates commissioned by AEFI put activated production at 22.5 billion euros, 0.7 percent of national production, and value added at 10.6 billion euros, 0.7 percent of GDP.
