This report, "Economic Impact of Exhibitions in Spain," was produced by Oxford Economics for the Spanish Trade Fair Association (AFE), in collaboration with UFI (The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry), and is dated December 2025, covering calendar year 2024. It draws on two distinct data streams: exhibition volume statistics — events held, net square metres sold, visitors, and exhibitors — sourced from AFE member data, and economic impact estimates generated through Oxford Economics' global econometric model, which underpins the "Global Economic Impact of Exhibitions" study series (first published April 2019; updated June 2022 and May 2025). The exhibition scope follows ISO 25639-1:2008 as adopted by UFI, covering trade and public exhibitions; conferences, conventions, seminars, flea markets, and street markets are explicitly excluded. AFE data recorded 580 exhibitions in 2024, with 8,312,000 visitors and 69,014 exhibiting companies participating, and 3.60 million net sqm sold. Oxford Economics' econometric model further estimates €6.5 billion in direct exhibitions spending, 62,091 direct jobs, and €3.4 billion in direct GDP contribution; accounting for indirect and induced effects, total economic output reaches €13.6 billion, supporting 124,385 jobs and €6.9 billion in total GDP contribution. All monetary figures are in euros, converted from US dollars via pound sterling at 2024 calendar-year average exchange rates.
