AEFI and Prometeia put the Italian trade fair system's value added at 10.6 billion euros

Estimates commissioned by AEFI from Prometeia set out the economic impact of the Italian trade fair system at two levels. At macro level the system is credited with activating 22.5 billion euros of production, equal to 0.7 percent of national production; 10.6 billion euros of value added, equal to 0.7 percent of GDP; and 203,000 jobs, or 0.9 percent of national employment. A separate tourism calculation adds 4.8 billion euros of value added, placed at 4.0 percent of the tourism economy, together with 90,000 jobs. At micro level the work reports that companies exhibiting at trade fairs during the 2010s recorded an average additional performance over eight years of 12.6 percent on revenue, 0.7 percent on EBITDA and 0.9 percent on return on investment. The impact study is dated 2022 and the tourism study 2023, both carried out by Prometeia for AEFI and presented in the association's white paper on the Italian trade fair sector.
