AEGA Reaffirms the Value of People's Commitment and Involvement at the Resilient Company Forum

The Galician Elevator Association (AEGA) took part in the Resilient Company Forum in Santiago de Compostela, where its president, Ángeles Ríos, analyzed the lessons learned from the 2025 blackout. Ríos highlighted how the vertical-transport sector turned a scenario of crisis and uncertainty into a model of operational strengthening, arguing that true resilience does not depend on technology alone — since not every risk can be covered — but on organizations' ability to adapt with agility and prioritize people's safety in extreme conditions. With communications down in the first hours, maintenance technicians reorganized autonomously to prioritize critical facilities such as hospitals and senior centers and to manage the rescue of trapped people, whose number multiplied more than tenfold that day even though 12:33 pm is not a high-traffic hour for elevators. AEGA has since reinforced its protocols: the reference offices of all elevator-maintenance companies will act as meeting points for technicians in case of technological failure, guaranteeing rescue routes even without phone or internet, and the installation of automatic rescue systems has been expanded where technically feasible. Ríos closed by underlining the human factor — clear leadership and committed teams — as the key to resilience, also linking lower absenteeism to teams more engaged with the company project.
