ASIME Concludes 3rd Maritime Trends Summit in Vigo with 200-Plus Industry Leaders
ASIME, the Galician metalworking and associated technologies industry cluster, concluded the 3rd edition of Maritime Trends Summit in Vigo, bringing together more than 200 industry representatives from national and international naval, maritime and port sectors. The congress featured five thematic sessions on shipyard and shipowner market conditions, diversification and new business opportunities, ship repair and construction, and defence and security. Key figures highlighted Galicia as a leading naval hub: concentrating 41% of national shipbuilding orders and 33% of new contracts, with 270-plus member companies generating 8,500 direct jobs and 90% of vessels built destined for export. Growth areas highlighted include offshore wind energy, defence contracts (the F-110 frigate programme involves 500 Spanish firms), and ship repair demand driven by an ageing global fleet. Digitalisation, talent shortages and competition from Chinese shipyards were also central topics. Platinum sponsors included Grupo Davila, Ferri, Panelship and Santander.
