Construmat Joins Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture as Preamble to 2027 Edition

Construmat, the construction fair of Fira de Barcelona, is joining Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture — a distinction awarded by UNESCO and the International Union of Architects (UIA) to the host city of the UIA World Architects Congress — as a preamble to its 25th edition scheduled for May 18-20, 2027 at the Gran Via site. President Xavier Vilajoana stated the fair wants to stand alongside this pivotal moment for the city and country, accelerating construction sector transformation toward sustainability, industrialization and innovation. Activities in 2026 include: an installation at Barcelona Cathedral Square with the Fundacion Laboral de la Construccion, featuring a counterweighted tubular structure for emergency rescue demonstrations at height, a mobile elevated work platform and a mobile prevention classroom with personal protective equipment; and guided tours to timber and eco-sustainable buildings in Barcelona with World Wood Future, covering Can Portabella neighborhood center, Gabriel Garcia Marquez library, Ca L Alier factory, ShowPass house, Wittywood offices, Turo de la Peira sports center and the Real Club de Polo timber grandstand.
