Egurtek Will Gather International Experts Leading the New Timber Architecture

Egurtek's International Congress of Timber Architecture and Construction will hold its eleventh edition on October 28-29 at Bilbao Exhibition Centre, with a high-level program reflecting wood's growing role as a strategic material for the climate and social challenges of the 21st century; previous editions have featured Pritzker Prize winners such as David Chipperfield and Shigeru Ban. The first day will be opened by Óscar and Iván Andrés Quintela (Arrokabe Arquitectos, Egurtek Awards 2016 and 2024), followed by Paloma Hernaiz (OHLAB), trained at OMA and Richard Rogers. From Austria, Oliver Sterl (RLP Rüdiger Lainer + Partner) brings his experience leading "HoHo Wien", one of the world's tallest timber buildings, and from France, Christophe Ouhayoun (KOZ Architectes), author of Sensations in Strasbourg, once Europe's tallest residential timber tower. The lineup is completed by MOLA Arquitectura, Andrea García Crespo (BABELstudio), Borja Gómez (IDOM), Erich Wiesner of Austrian glulam leader WIEHAG, Chilean architect Martín Hurtado and China's Song Yehao (Tsinghua University, SUP Atelier). The exhibition area features firms from Italy, France, Germany and Romania, including Hans Hundegger, Rotho Blaas, Piveteau Bois and FINSA. Baskegur's technical sessions, Innovation Workshops, networking and the Egurtek Awards — with nearly 80 entries — complete the event organized by BEC.
