Energy storage takes the floor at Battery & ES Tech Europe 2026

Battery & Energy Storage Tech Europe, organised by Fira de Barcelona, will feature some fifty speakers from the energy storage field, including major utilities and developers, battery manufacturers, technology centres, associations and institutions. The congress programme is structured around four pillars: industrial and emerging applications; the BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) technological outlook; recycling and second life; and policy and regulation — key vectors for a sector worth close to 58 billion euros that is set to star in Europe's industrial strategy over the coming decades. Speakers include Christian Barba (EDP Renewables), Naim El Chami (Neoen), Pablo Fernández-Santos (Basquevolt), Graeme Purdy (Ilika), Veeral Hardev (Blue Current) and Alex Cipolla (Volta Foundation). Regulatory and financing challenges will be addressed by José Moisés Martín, director general of Spain's CDTI, Joan González Fabra of the Battery European Partnership Association, and representatives of Flow Batteries Europe, BVES, Europe's Rail, SolarPower Europe's Battery Storage Europe Platform and Upcell Alliance. From the scientific sphere, experts from the ALBA synchrotron, ITE, CIDETEC, Eurecat and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology will discuss innovation management and AI applied to energy. The show, to be held in Barcelona on 8-9 September, will attract close to a hundred companies, with an exhibition area featuring some 50 firms, positioning itself as a reference forum connecting industry, research and public administrations.
