The 2nd World Inland Tourism Congress 'will build solutions for low-density territories'

The 15th Galician Tourism Show, Turexpo Galicia, held within the 48th Abanca Semana Verde international fair, hosted the presentation of the 2nd World Inland Tourism Congress, which the Iberian Inland Tourism Association (AITI) will organise on 18 and 19 November in the Portuguese city of Guarda, with Turexpo Galicia as associate partner. Guarda councillor Cláudia Guedes presented the municipality — Portugal's highest — as embodying 'the essence of the Iberian interior', stressing that in an increasingly globalised world travellers seek authenticity, which is precisely what inland territories offer, and that inland tourism today plays a strategic role as an economic driver and a tool for cultural enhancement, heritage preservation and sustainable development. The congress was born as 'a space for reflection, exchange and the building of solutions for the challenges facing low-density territories worldwide'. AITI president Miguel Martins highlighted that the event will gather experts, academics, entrepreneurs, tourism professionals and public officials from twelve countries: Spain, Portugal, Germany, the United States, Ireland, Colombia, Bolivia, Egypt, Jordan, Poland, Cape Verde and São Tomé. Castelo Branco will be the guest destination and Cáceres — host of the first edition — the guest region. Martins also revealed that the organisers are working on holding the third edition, in 2028, in Galicia.
