The 2nd Iberian Forestry Symposium gathered experts from four countries and a hundred registrants at Galiforest Abanca 2026

The Galiforest Abanca forestry show, held at the Sergude Agricultural Training and Experimentation Centre (Boqueixón), hosted over two days the 2nd Iberian Forestry Symposium (II SIS), which brought together around a hundred registrants and experts from four countries to discuss the sector's future: professionals, researchers, companies, associations, forest owners, students and public administrations. Topics shaping the sector's evolution were addressed, including resilient forestry, genetic improvement, innovation applied to woodland, new technologies, forest productivity and knowledge transfer between science, industry and territory. The first day, opened by Daniel Farias of organisers Máis Madeira, featured talks by Arantza Pérez (ASPAPEL) on levers for active, resilient forestry, Teotônio Francisco de Assis (Assistech Brazil) on the potential of Eucalyptus and Corymbia hybrids for Spanish plantations, Ronaldo Luiz Silveira (RR Agroflorestal Brazil) on nutritional management, and the nursery experiences of Ence Terra and Viveros Mañente. The second day examined the future of conifers in Galicia — with Raquel Díaz (Lourizán Centre) on the pinaster pine programme and nematode resistance, the Arume Foundation's Gopiña propagation project and Finsa's shared forest management model — and genetic innovation in eucalyptus with Portugal's Raíz and Altri Florestal, plus lectures by Claudio Balocchi (Arauco Chile) on the GloNi hybrid and DNA-free genomic editing, and Carlos Tejedor (Ence Terra). Round tables closed each day.
