EXPOCoruña Hosts the City's Sports Gala Dinner

EXPOCoruña hosted the Cena del Deporte (Sports Gala Dinner) on the night of May 29, organized by the A Coruña City Council. The event brought together more than 1,000 people and recognized 15 athletes and organizations for their achievements and careers. The Coruña venue hosted this traditional celebration, which marks the end of the season for the Municipal Sports Schools, which this year served close to 4,000 users. Mayor Inés Rey presented the awards, including those given to Gonzalo Santa Cruz and Paula Otero as Coruña athletes of the year; to Luis Suárez, head of the Azteca Box boxing school, for his career; to Manuel García Martínez, 'Parodi', for his dedication to local football; and to O Gran Camiño as the best sporting event of the season. Tributes were also paid to Juan Copa, Dolores Pena and Carmen López, as well as to city clubs including Bolboretas Dragon Boat, Victoria, Liceo, Voleibol Coruña, Marineda Hockey, Maristas and Deportivo de La Coruña. The event reinforces the role of the Coruña exhibition venue as a stage for the city's major social and institutional gatherings.
