Iberia Launches the Madrid-Toronto Route with the Support of Madrid Turismo by IFEMA Madrid
Iberia has launched its direct flights between Toronto and Madrid, strengthening connectivity between Canada, Spain and Europe and consolidating the role of Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport as one of the main connectivity hubs between America and Europe. The airline will operate five weekly frequencies between the two cities with the Airbus A321XLR, offering more than 37,000 seats during the summer season. The opening is part of Iberia's Flight Plan 2030, which includes a 6 billion euro investment to grow its long-haul fleet from 51 to 70 aircraft, and of the international promotion actions driven by Madrid Turismo by IFEMA Madrid, an initiative of the Community of Madrid and the Madrid City Council. The route is estimated to generate an economic impact of close to 31 million euros in its first year of operation. Daniel Martínez, executive vice-president of IFEMA MADRID, highlighted that the 3 million euro investment made through Madrid Turismo has enabled a comprehensive promotional plan in North America, supporting both the new Madrid-Toronto route and other US connections. Through the Madrid hub, Grupo Iberia offers more than 60 European and 46 domestic destinations, and the Stopover Hola Madrid program, which allows travelers to stay up to nine nights in the capital at no additional fare cost, registered close to 40,000 users in 2025, up 38%. Toronto joins Iberia's largest North American schedule ever: more than 2.2 million seats and up to 170 weekly flights in 2026, roughly 13% growth.
