The Regional Library of Murcia receives the Liber 2026 Award

The board of the Spanish Federation of Publishers' Guilds (FGEE) has awarded the Liber 2026 Prize for the best reading-promotion initiative in public libraries to the Regional Library of Murcia, recognising its commitment to bringing books closer to citizens through programmes aimed at all ages and its integration into the region's cultural life. Under the motto 'Books and much more', the institution runs a programme that goes far beyond lending: its literary series 'El canon de la BRMU' has hosted authors such as Javier Cercas, Luis Landero, María Dueñas, Fernando Savater and Andrés Trapiello; 'Bibliomedia' focuses on journalism with voices like Rosa Belmonte and Arcadi Espada; and 'Cinema as a literary genre' has brought together figures including Maribel Verdú, David Trueba, Emma Suárez and José Luis Garci, alongside science, history, art, sport and philosophy activities, workshops, reading clubs and exhibitions. The award ceremony will take place on 30 September at the MNAC in Barcelona, as part of the programme of Liber 2026, the international book fair running from 29 September to 1 October at Fira de Barcelona's Gran Via venue with 250 publishers and companies. The same event will present the awards for reading promotion in the media, best audiovisual adaptation of a literary work, the 'Boixareu Ginesta' bookshop of the year prize, the recognition of the most outstanding Ibero-American author and the Liber Tribute, with winners to be announced in the coming weeks.
