Breed diversity and a packed programme define the livestock area of Abanca Semana Verde 2026

The 48th Abanca Semana Verde de Galicia international fair, running from 4 to 7 June at the Feira Internacional de Galicia ABANCA venue, will devote its livestock area to a broad agenda of competitions, exhibitions and conferences, with a starring role for Galicia's endangered native breeds, represented by federation BOAGA, Asoporcel, Puraga and the Pura Raza Cabalo Galego association. Morphological contests include the 6th Galician Sheep and Goat Competition (25 animals), the 8th Celtic Pig Competition — with over 50 animals from some thirty farms, its largest turnout yet —, the 11th Galiña de Mos Championship with 120 adult birds, the official Galician Purebred Horse contest and five cattle competitions (Cachena, Vianesa, Caldelá, Limiá and Frieiresa breeds) featuring 80 animals from twenty breeders. The programme also includes a 'rapa das bestas' wild-mare shearing display, haute école dressage exhibitions, a live poultry market with more than 1,000 Galiña de Mos chickens for sale, the presentation of minority pig-breed federation Ferampor and the 'Tapirazas' restaurant serving daily menus based on native breeds. Rounding out the agenda are the 28th Pig Farming Symposium — addressing the sector's international outlook and African swine fever —, five innovation sessions by the Feuga foundation and talks by sheep association Ovica on its Shepherds' School and ram-testing projects.
