Barcelona bookshop Casa Anita wins the Boixareu Ginesta Bookseller of the Year Award

The board of the Spanish Federation of Publishers' Guilds (FGEE) has awarded the Boixareu Ginesta Bookseller of the Year Prize to Barcelona bookshop Casa Anita, recognising its more than two decades as a reference space for children's and young adult literature and illustration, and its commitment to promoting reading, artistic creation and the cultural life of its neighbourhood. Since 1995 the award has honoured booksellers who play a significant role in fostering literary culture and consolidating the book chain. Founded in 2004 in Barcelona's Gràcia district by Oblit Baseiria Virgili — a philology graduate and former editorial director at Columna Edicions and Grupo Planeta — Casa Anita later moved to Carrer Vic, where its courtyard has become an emblematic meeting place for storytellers, illustrators, authors, schools and families. The bookshop has expanded with l'Obrador, an exhibition room and creative workshop opposite the shop, takes part in events such as La Setmana del Llibre en Català and Món Llibre, and organises the annual Trobada Il·lustrada gathering of illustrators for Sant Jordi. The award will be presented on 30 September at the MNAC, within Liber 2026, alongside the prizes for the Regional Library of Murcia, ABC Cultural and the series 'Anatomía de un instante'. The fair will gather more than 250 publishers and companies from 29 September to 1 October at the Gran Via venue.
