Spain's best sommeliers tested against the world's great sparkling wines: Sparkling Wine Master returns to Gastrónoma

Professional sommellerie returns to Gastrónoma 2026 with the fourth edition of the Sparkling Wine Master by Tantum Ergo, a championship specialising in sparkling wines to be held on 26 October at Feria Valencia, within the Mediterranean's leading gastronomy fair, which runs from 26 to 28 October. The competition, with registration still open, is aimed exclusively at working professional sommeliers from restaurants, hospitality, specialist retail and gourmet spaces. It will not be a closed-door contest but an examination on an open stage: Spain's best sommeliers will measure their knowledge and judgement against the world's great sparkling wines — Champagne, Cava, Corpinnat, Crémant, Franciacorta, Sekt and productions from Portugal, England and Latin America — before an audience of restaurateurs, wineries and distributors. The tests will combine theory and practice with technical rigour, assessing not just the ability to identify bubbles but the knowledge, technique and sensibility surrounding naturally made sparkling wines. The championship is driven by Bodegas Hispano Suizas, producer of Tantum Ergo and a Valencian benchmark in premium sparkling wines, together with Efecto Directo and Gastrónoma, with the collaboration of Turisme Comunitat Valenciana, Euroselecció-Riedel and the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles Sparkling Wines Session. The fair thereby consolidates its long-standing commitment to sparkling wines and to showcasing the work of front-of-house professionals.
