Smart City Expo Meets in Argentina and Calls for Action to Transform Cities

On May 20-21, the fifth edition of Smart City Expo Santiago del Estero (SCESDE) showcases the master lines shaping the future of Latin American cities. Under the motto "From strategy to action: connect, innovate, transform", the event organized by Fira de Barcelona and hosted by the Government of Santiago del Estero gathers in the Argentine city more than 150 companies, institutions and bodies committed to more sustainable and intelligent environments, along with over 250 experts from academia, government and business. The congress program is structured around three axes: education, economy and new skills in the digital era; artificial intelligence, innovation and government; and quality of life, habitat and urban security. Confirmed speakers include Verónica Baracat (UN Women Argentina), Maya Takagi (FAO), Juan Corvalán (AI Laboratory, University of Buenos Aires), Josefina del Río (Rosario housing authority), science communicator Diego Golombek and researcher Micaela Sánchez Malcolm. The exhibition area features companies such as Acertis, NEC, EY, Renault, Claro, Personal and Grupo Dexia, alongside institutions like FAO, ECLAC, CONICET and TECHO. This year an exclusive networking area debuts, complemented by activities fostering exchange among participants. SCESDE is part of Fira de Barcelona's 2026 international calendar, which includes events in Brazil, Qatar, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Shanghai, the US and Jordan.
