CIIE and Hongqiao Forum hold consultation at UN Geneva

With support from the Chinese Permanent Mission in Geneva, the CIIE Bureau and the Hongqiao Forum secretariat held a consultation seminar for the 9th CIIE and Hongqiao Forum at the Palais des Nations, the UN office in Geneva, on the morning of 10 March 2026. Liang Hong, minister counsellor of the Chinese mission, and Song Shangzhe of the CIIE Bureau and forum secretariat gave opening remarks. The meeting set out the contribution of the expo and forum to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, reported on preparations for the ninth editions and explained the thinking behind the forum theme and agenda, while gathering views to strengthen international cooperation. Ambassadors and officials of permanent missions and heads of international organisations spoke, welcoming the contribution to the 2030 Agenda and offering suggestions on the agenda design. Liao Fan, director of the Institute of World Economics and Politics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, presented research behind the World Openness Report and the World Openness Index. Participants included the permanent missions of Nicaragua, Cape Verde, Palestine, Kazakhstan, Russia, Myanmar and Peru, and officials of the South Centre, the International Trade Centre and UNCTAD.
