International Diabetes Federation Western Pacific Congress 2026 draws 3,000+ delegates

The International Diabetes Federation Western Pacific Congress 2026, held jointly with the Australasian Diabetes Congress 2026 and Metabolic Diseases 2026, took place last week at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Across four days it brought together more than 3,000 delegates, including international researchers, clinicians, educators, policy leaders and people living with diabetes. Melbourne secured the congress in 2025, with Melbourne Convention Bureau working alongside the Australian Diabetes Society, Diabetes Australia and the Australian Diabetes Educators Association, supported by the Victorian Government and Tourism Australia. Congress Chair Professor Jonathan Shaw, a Victorian Ambassador Network member since 2012, played a key role in the bid. When secured, the congress was estimated to contribute around $13 million to the Melbourne and Victorian economy.
