EIC opens targeted refinement of its Sustainable Event Standards in collaboration with JMIC

The Events Industry Council, working with the Joint Meetings Industry Council, launched a targeted refinement of the EIC Sustainable Event Standards (SES), the industry's leading sustainability framework for business events. The standards were originally developed through global industry collaboration and give organisers and suppliers practical guidance for implementing and measuring sustainable practices across the events ecosystem. The refinement is scoped as a focused update rather than a rewrite: clearer language and guidance, updates reflecting evolving trends, frameworks and industry expectations, and minor additions or deletions aligned with current best practice, all aimed at improving clarity and usability for both organiser and supplier sectors. A stated goal is closer alignment between the SES and JMIC's Net Zero Carbon Events initiative, so that environmental and social responsibility work across the global events ecosystem is better coordinated. EIC President and CEO Amy Calvert said the standards have been integral in enabling organisations across the industry to implement transformative sustainability practices. Recent certifications under the standards include CVS Studios, Gilead Sciences, Singapore EXPO, The Freeman Company and the Water Environment Federation (WEFTEC).
