EIC launches Global Meetings Industry Day 2026 for 6 May, paired with the release of its economic significance study

The Events Industry Council announced Global Meetings Industry Day 2026 and an accompanying advocacy framework, positioning GMID as a year-round worldwide initiative rather than a single-day event. GMID falls on 6 May 2026 and will bring together event professionals, organisations, destinations and partners to show how in-person gatherings drive economic expansion, accelerate innovation and strengthen connections across industries and borders. EIC deliberately aligned the date with the release of the 2026 Global Economic Significance of Business Events Study, produced with Oxford Economics, which measures the industry's economic contribution including jobs supported, spending generated and broader community impact, so that advocacy activity and hard data land on the same day. Stephanie Harris, President of the Incentive Research Foundation and 2026 EIC Board Chair, said showing up together demonstrates the true scale and influence of the industry. EIC invited participation from all parts of the business events ecosystem, including organisers and venues.
