2026 Japan Taiwan Image Show Opens in Tokyo with 154 Exhibitors, Record for Overseas Taiwan Shows

The 2026 Japan Taiwan Image Show opened in Tokyo on 15 July, organised by Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs. Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-hsin led the delegation and stressed that Taiwan-Japan industrial cooperation would further consolidate both countries' leading positions in critical global industries. The show's theme is Innovate for Tomorrow, covering five domains: smart manufacturing, energy circular economy, smart city, smart health and culture and lifestyle. A total of 154 Taiwanese companies are exhibiting, up 15% from the previous edition and a record for Taiwan's overseas image shows. Taiwan-Japan bilateral trade reached USD 84.851 billion in 2025, with Japan ranking as Taiwan's fourth-largest trading partner and Taiwan as Japan's third-largest. TSMC's second Kumamoto plant investment is accelerating Taiwanese supply chain deployment in Japan, and both sides are jointly promoting the IOWN high-speed optical network initiative. A Taiwan-Japan AI Technology Forum explored AI applications, semiconductor supply chains, smart manufacturing and innovation. Taiwan also established a Taiwan Trade and Investment Centre in Fukuoka in April 2025 to provide one-stop services including legal consultation, market intelligence and business matching for companies entering the Japanese market.
