Japan Named Country of Honor at Cannes Marche du Film 2026, JETRO Supports International Expansion of Japanese Cinema
Japan has been selected as the Country of Honor at the 2026 Marche du Film (Film Market), held May 12-20, 2026 at the Palais des Festivals et des Congres in Cannes, France. The theme is Beyond Boundaries: Tradition, Innovation, and the Future of Japanese Cinema, showcasing how Japanese filmmaking spans classical traditions, anime, and contemporary expressions. In 2025, the Marche du Film attracted 15,000 attendees and over 600 companies from more than 140 countries. Four major Japanese production companies — Shochiku, Toho, Toei, and KADOKAWA — contributed executive interviews to a 28-page special Japan publication distributed at the market. JETRO serves as a member of the Country of Honor implementation committee, supporting the Japanese film industry international expansion through programming and business promotion initiatives during the market.
