Kentucky Exposition Center Reveals Progress on $460 Million Expansion

Interstate 65 through Louisville reopened ahead of schedule on 29 July, giving drivers their first view in two months of construction at the Kentucky Exposition Center. A five-mile stretch had closed on 1 June for bridge replacements near the venue while work continued on Phase I of Kentucky Venues' 460 million US dollar expansion, the largest capital investment in the facility's history. Phase I is a 180 million US dollar project centred on a 350,000 square foot multi-purpose building, roughly the size of six football fields, designed for livestock competitions, equine events, sporting tournaments, trade shows and conventions. It remains on schedule for substantial completion by 31 December 2026, with major events booked from 2027. Work logged in June included 11,400 feet of sanitary piping, 300 utility floor boxes in the exhibit hall floor, 2,903 reconstructed parking spaces and more than 40,000 concrete masonry units, with about 240 workers on site daily. July brought more than 2,800 sprinkler heads, two miles of ductwork, more than 8,500 ceramic restroom tiles and limestone from Brodhead, Kentucky, at the front entrances, with roughly 300 workers a day. Interim president and chief executive Michael E. Berry said the building looks completely different from the spring.
