LVCVA Names Janis Burke Chief Sports Officer

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has appointed Janis Burke as Chief Sports Officer, a role leading the strategic direction and execution of all sports and special events work aimed at strengthening the city's standing as a global sporting destination. Burke will oversee the attraction and delivery of professional, collegiate, youth and amateur sporting events that generate economic impact across Southern Nevada, working alongside Will Hunter, Vice President of Events, and Jennifer Hawkins, Vice President of Sports Business Development. She brings more than 30 years in sports tourism, having worked on events including Copa America, the NCAA Men's Final Four, the Super Bowl, the College Football Playoff and the US Women's Open. She joins from the Sports Events and Tourism Association in Cincinnati, where she was Chief of International Sports and Strategy, and previously served as Chief Executive of the Harris County Houston Sports Authority and President and CEO of Visit Hershey and Harrisburg, with earlier roles at Visit San Antonio, Visit Detroit and Hilton. LVCVA President and CEO Steve Hill said Burke brings an extraordinary track record of leadership and achievement in sports tourism. Her honours include the Sports Events and Tourism Association Hall of Fame in 2024.
