Malaysia Achieves Historic Services Trade Surplus — First Since 2011 — as Total Trade Hits Record Highs in 2025
Malaysia recorded a historic services trade surplus of RM1.15 billion in 2025, the first since 2011, as total services trade reached RM543.01 billion (+9.2%). Services exports grew 12% to RM272.08 billion while imports rose 6.4% to RM270.93 billion. Key growth sectors: travel services RM110.59B (+16%, driven by 42.2 million international arrivals), telecommunications & IT services RM27.13B (+27.1%), business services RM48.66B (+14.1%), and maintenance & repair services RM7.67B (+34.2%). Overall merchandise trade exceeded RM3 trillion for the first time in history in 2025, reflecting Malaysia's transition toward a high-value, knowledge-based economy.
