Malaysia's Trade Performance for 2025: RM3.06 Trillion Record with Strong Sectoral and Partner Growth

Malaysia's 2025 trade totaled RM3.061 trillion (+6.3% YoY), crossing the RM3 trillion mark for the first time. Exports reached a record RM1.607 trillion (+6.5%), the fifth consecutive year above RM1 trillion. The trade surplus was RM151.80 billion, extending the 28-year consecutive surplus since 1998. Manufactured goods were driven by Electrical & Electronics, machinery and equipment, optical/scientific equipment, and palm oil-based agriculture. Key partners recording strong growth: ASEAN, US, Taiwan, and EU; with Hong Kong SAR, Mexico, and Canada achieving new highs. Emerging markets expanded significantly: Nigeria, Tanzania, Togo, Angola, Yemen, Morocco, and Uzbekistan. Malaysia leveraged CPTPP and RCEP, and improved its IMD World Competitiveness Ranking from 34th in 2024 to 23rd in 2025.
