New U80 and U81 Light Rail Lines Link Düsseldorf Airport Directly with Messe Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf’s new U80/U81 light rail link was officially inaugurated on 4 September, with North Rhine-Westphalia’s Minister-President Hendrik Wüst, Claudia Elif Stutz, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport, and Düsseldorf’s Mayor Stephan Keller among those on board. The two lines connect the international airport directly with Messe Düsseldorf, the city centre and Düsseldorf central station. Messe Düsseldorf describes it as one of the shortest airport-to-trade-fair transfers worldwide and says the final leg of the journey has become significantly shorter for international guests, exhibitors and the wider Düsseldorf region. President and CEO Wolfram Diener said the link is good news for guests, for the city and for the company as a trade fair organiser, and that as it competes on the international stage the city’s infrastructure needs to keep pace with that ambition.
