Ninth Hongqiao Forum sets theme and will issue two flagship reports

The Hongqiao Forum secretariat announced the theme and session framework for the 9th Hongqiao International Economic Forum at an event on 27 July 2026, marking 100 days to the forum and the 9th CIIE. The theme is stable cooperation and jointly building an open world economy. Sessions follow a one-plus-four structure: the first element is a report release and international symposium that will publish the World Openness Report 2026 with the latest World Openness Index, issue for the first time a report on developing export-to-China capability, and release the Chinese edition of the World Trade Report 2026. The four thematic blocks cover open cooperation, focused on upholding multilateralism and on trade and supply chain cooperation; open innovation, focused on new technological momentum; open development; and open sharing. Song Shangzhe of the CIIE Bureau and the forum secretariat said the forum will maintain its role in promoting global openness and improving global economic governance. The UN Resident Coordinator in China, Siddharth Chatterjee, and Hamid Rashid, former head of the UN global economic monitoring branch, spoke by video.
