Prognos Study Commissioned by AUMA Puts the German Trade Fair Industry's Annual Value Added Above 30 Billion Euros

The study The Trade Fair Effect: Value Added, Growth, Competitiveness, produced by the economic research institute Prognos on behalf of AUMA and published in Berlin in February 2026, estimates that the German trade fair industry generates more than 30 billion euros of value added for the national economy each year, secures at least 280,000 jobs and yields 5.4 billion euros in tax revenue for federal, state and local government. The effects are described as especially pronounced in transport, hospitality and retail. These are modelled estimates from a study commissioned by an industry association rather than official statistics. AUMA uses the findings to argue that sustaining this contribution over the long term requires supporting policy conditions, including modern visa issuance, high-performance transport infrastructure and competitive trade fair support programmes. That argument is the association's own position. The study sits alongside AUMA's regular statistical reporting and is one of the publications the association cites in its annual Trends volume.
