Prognos study puts Messe München economic impact at EUR 4.45 billion

A new study by the economic research institute Prognos found that events held at the Munich exhibition centre generate an average nationwide economic impact of EUR 4.45 billion in a typical trade fair year and support around 34,400 jobs across Germany. The figures represent a substantial increase on the previous study from 2019, which put the impact at EUR 3.29 billion and 27,000 jobs; nationwide revenue effects rose 35%. Prognos attributed the growth to a higher share of international exhibitors and visitors and consistently strong exhibitor and visitor numbers at the venue. CEOs Reinhard Pfeiffer and Stefan Rummel said trade fairs and conferences in Munich are far more than platforms for innovation and exchange and act as an economic engine for Munich, Bavaria and Germany. In the 2025 trade fair year, events at the Munich site attracted 34,600 exhibitors and more than 2.5 million visitors, well above the city population of roughly 1.6 million.
