Malaysia's Trade Surplus Surges 137.6% in Jan–Feb 2026 on E&E Export Boom

Malaysia's trade surplus widened 137.6% to RM38.67 billion in the first two months of 2026, with total trade growing 11.0% to RM516.89 billion. E&E products led the surge at +34.2% (RM131.34 billion, 47.3% of total exports), followed by machinery and parts (+39.8% to RM12.49 billion) and palm oil (+6.6% to RM12.41 billion). Traditional markets like the US (+38.1%) and Hong Kong (+45.8%) posted strong gains, while Malaysia pivots toward high-growth emerging markets. However, 63.9% of exporters anticipate disruption from the Middle East maritime situation, prompting MATRADE to mobilise offices in Dubai, Jeddah, Cairo and Doha.
